Recently, the Clean Water Advocates sent an email to each of the 2007 Boulder City Council Candidates, asking them an important question.
The response to the question will help CWA determine which candidate to endorse for the 2007 election. We hope this information is helpful to you, as you make your voting decisions for the upcoming election.

Clean Drinking
Water Initiative:
A Squeaker
Nine
months ago, two doctors, a dentist, environmental lawyer, renown rock
climber and four other political neophytes sponsored Boulder's citizens'
initiative for cleaner drinking water. They gathered over 5000 signatures to
put the issue on November's ballot. The Clean Drinking Water Initiative
would have prohibited Boulder from adding any substance to the drinking
water to treat humans unless it is uncontaminated and approved by the FDA,
the government agency that determines if such a product meets its claims
for effectiveness. We gratefully thank the sponsors, numerous volunteers
and supporters of Initiative 2B, who had nothing to gain except their,
their children's and their neighbors' increased health.
We
also want to thank the 48.2% of Boulder voters who waded through the
negative labeling to vote "YES" on 2B, turning the race into a squeaker
that surprised more than a few. To those who didn't support us, we
urge you to continue a dialogue, and to be open to more education and new
developments on the subject. To our representatives, we expect
you to keep your promise to seek an uncontaminated source of fluoride
for Boulder.
We
want to thank the City and County Clerk offices for their assistance, and
every Boulder voter for getting involved in our attempt to shape public
policy through citizen initiative, the most direct form of democracy around.
