Clean Water Advocates of Boulder is spearheading the Clean Drinking Water Initiative on the Election Ballot for November 7, 2006. The goal of the campaign is to assure the quality of substances added to Boulder's water supply for the purposes of treating humans.

For healthier drinking water, vote "YES" on 2B.

Our Opponents' Misleading FDA Argument

While 2B's opponents - misleadingly- point out the FDA does not certify municipal water (of course not, all other additives to our drinking water make it potable and are not medicines), FDA's official policy is that fluoride "is a drug that is subject to FDA regulation." The FDA's local district manager recently acknowledged the agency's responsibility to regulate "the manufacture of fluoride." Daily Camera, October 25, 2006 "Corrections," p. 2. 2B will simply require the fluoride manufacturer to provide an FDA certified product.

Why Should I Vote “YES” on Initiative 2B?

• 2B assures that the City of Boulder will only add substances to the water that are harmless, effective, and meet safe drinking water goals as determined by the FDA and EPA.
• At present, Boulder introduces a fertilizer by-product to fluoridate the city’s drinking water supply, rather than a safe option, such as a purer additive.
• This product, hydrofluorosilicic acid (HFS), contains lead and arsenic (known carcinogens) that cause our water to exceed EPA healthy drinking water goals.
